An important focus of police reform is de-escalation in all police interactions and interventions [6E, § 1 and 555 CMR 6.00] and, more specifically, in all police/juvenile encounters [Chapter 253 Acts of 2020, Section 119]. In addition to dealing with the law and practice of police de-escalation, the class will also discuss other key aspects of police involvement with juveniles, including Children Requiring Assistance (CRA), mandated reporting, missing juveniles, delinquency decisions, and other matters contained in a comprehensive model policy.
